How to Install HP Printer Driver


If you have HP printer and you need to reinstall driver for it, you can do it in following steps:
Step 1: Connect the printer
Try connecting the printer to gain access to Printer Assistant tools.
  1. On the window that appears, click on Connect a new printer.
  2. You need to select the connection type,when it is prompted, then go on to follow the on-screen instructions to setup the printer.
  3. Click on Retry, if a red X displays and the connection fails,then continue to the next step.
  4. To turn the printer Off, you need to press the power button on the printer.
  5. Before restarting your computer,close all running programs on your computer.
  6. Once you restart your computer, then, turn on the printer.
  7. You need to go through following steps:
  • Try to  open Printer Assistant,if it open then, the issue is resolved.
  • However, if you are unable to open Printer Assistant or the red X displays and the connection still fails, continue to the next step.
Step 2: You need to uninstall the HP print driver and software before reinstalling the latest driver:
  1. Cut all connections of cable from the printer,if your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable,Search Windows for programs and features, then click Programs and Features in the list of results.
  2. Before clicking on Uninstall or Yes, click on your HP printer name in the list of installed programs.Install HP Printer Driver
  3. After software removal, restart the computer.
Step 3: After uninstalling the software, download and reinstall the latest driver from the HP website
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
  3. Go to HP Customer Support- Software and driver downloads.
  4. Select a method to look for your printer model,if prompted, and then go on with the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.
  5. Now, all you need to do is click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.
Step 4: After reinstalling the driver,restart the computer and the printer to finish setting up the software
  1. Before reinstalling the driver, turn off the printer.
  2. All you need to do is now, close all running programs on your computer, then restart your computer.
  3. After restarting your computer, turn on the printer.
  4. If your printer is turned on, open HP Printer Assistant.

  • If your Printer Assistant is getting opened, the issue is resolved.
  • If you are unable to open Printer Assistant, and the Printer Setup & Software screen displays, connect the printer again, then restart the printer and computer to complete the installation.
